King LASIK – Premium IOLs: AcrySof ReSTOR & Crystalens

Intraocular lens implants (IOLs) are artificial lenses that are surgically placed inside the eye to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, age-related presbyopia or astigmatism. IOLs are generally used during cataract surgery in order to provide patients with restored vision and, when possible, eliminate the need for corrective eyewear.

Dr. King, a renowned laser eye surgery provider in the U.S. and Canada, offers the latest, most sophisticated lens implants, which are uniquely designed to restore vision. While no one implant is appropriate for every patient, Dr. King specializes in determining which IOL is the best choice for your vision needs.

To learn more about each IOL available at King LASIK, please read the paragraphs below.

Crystalens

The Crystalens is the only FDA-approved “accommodating” IOL. It belongs to the category of presbyopia-correcting, or premium IOLs, which allow patients to focus on objects at most distances. Crystalens is uniquely engineered to move with the eye’s muscles, thus “accommodating” the eye and restoring its ability to focus. Crystalens is used to improve vision following cataracts and has also been proven to effectively treat presbyopia. During FDA clinical trials, it was found that a vast majority of patients who received a Crystalens implant achieved a significant improvement in their ability to focus.

AcrySof ReSTOR

AcrySof ReSTOR is a non-accommodating, multifocal IOL that provides multiple focus points, simultaneously improving both near and distance vision following cataract surgery. AcrySof ReSTOR is also a presbyopia-correcting lens. Generally, four out of five patients who obtain a premium IOL following cataract surgery never have to use glasses again. Although multifocal IOLs may provide excellent near and distant vision, they may not be appropriate for intermediate vision restoration.
